What do you want to celebrate about your athlete?
PaHeru is a Level 5, Division 1 USAG Men's gymnast who has earned numerous medals and honors to include 2019 Countryside Gymnastics Rookie Male Gymnast of the Year as well as being selected to the 2019-2020 North Carolina Men's Gymnastics Elite Team.
At the age of 6 years old, PaHeru began studying Taekwondo under the instruction of Master Dae Jin Kim at the U.S. Taekwondo Center. He has since risen up to Red Belt and has earned medals for Best Form, Best Kick, and Best Breaking.
I would like to celebrate PaHeru's tenacity, persistence, will to succeed despite rough circumstances and his discipline. I've seen him become frustrated at not getting a skill when his teammates do. I've seen him cry when he doesn't achieve a goal. However, I have not once heard him speak of quitting. He rises to the occasion and many times, have exceeded his goals due to his grit and will to master his craft.

"He has so much compassion and loyalty when it comes to his teams."

What life skills do you see your athlete learning through sports?
The life skills I have seen PaHeru learn through gymnastics and Taekwondo are (1) constructively learning from his failures, (2) how to be an awesome leader and team member, (3) setting S.M.A.R.T. goals, (4) pushing through tough, unfavorable circumstance.
What is a character trait your Athlete has that you adore?
PaHeru displays a tremendous amount of compassion and loyalty when it comes to his teams. Whether it's gymnastics or Taekwondo, he is always encouraging his teammates to do well and try their best. When someone cries or becomes frustrated, he comes home and discusses how it makes him "feel bad". I see him clapping for his teammates as they compete. When he writes out his personal goals, he always includes the line "My teammates will win gold and silver medals too".
Besides sports, what does your Athlete aspire to be?
PaHeru aspires to help others be physically and mentally healthy. He is always writing work out plans for the family and having work out sessions with his siblings.
Tell us one thing you want your athlete to know.
The one thing I would want PaHeru to always know is that he is his greatest competition. The most challenging thing you'll ever do in life is to continue "to best" yourself- be better than you were yesterday, perform better than you did the last time...In the end, you're your best critic and supporter. The goal is to master yourself and be the best you can be- every day.
ATHLETE FUN FACTS
Who do you look up to?
PaHeru admires and respects his father. If you ever give him the choice of where he wants to be or where he wants to go, he says, "I want to be with daddy."
What do you love about sports?
PaHeru loves the feeling he gets when he works out. He likes making friends and learning new skills. He appreciates the challenges as well as the mentoring from his coaches and instructors- he considers them part of his family.
What do you do in your spare time?
During his spare time, PaHeru enjoys hanging out with family- watching movies, playing board games, Beyblading with his younger brothers and having dance competitions at home.
Congratulations, PaHeru!
