It’s time to celebrate our Athlete of The Week!
Haeden Spiering, son of Sports Mama, Brianna Spiering, is our Athlete of the Week.
Tell us about Haeden’s achievement:
Haeden became an All-American Wrestler at age 8. He has placed on the National Level – as well as at the South Dakota State Tournament 3 times – with one of those times being the Champion of his weight class. He has gone undefeated twice through Districts and Regions.
But above all of this, he allowed a boy who was injured in a fire from another town to take a win off his record. He took him down to a 3rd-period match, with a last-second flop, took the loss so our friend Tyler could have the win. It was Tyler’s first since getting injured in the fire.
Tell us about a character trait Haeden has that you just adore:
Haeden has a HUGE heart. He is always looking out for those younger and less advantaged than he is which is why he set the goal this year to “Do something great through wrestling”. He wanted to help Tyler, the wrestler injured in a fire, gain some of his confidence back in the sport of wrestling.
He gladly added the loss to his record (and on a day Tyler had the news and the Guinness Book of World Records there for interviews). Haeden will forever be in the Guinness Book for taking that loss, as a returning State Champion, but as Haeden said, “Tyler needs to know he is a warrior and champion more than I do.”
Tell us one thing you want your athlete to know:
I will forever stand beside you. Always believing in you…even when you don’t believe in yourself.
